Caviar News Room 2007

In January of 2007 we received delicious news from Geneva, Switzerland.  CITES (Convention on International Trade in Endangered Species - organization controlling the trade in the luxury delicacy) has published export quotas for Russian, Persian and stellate sturgeon caviar and meat from the Caspian for 2007. In February, we received news of Beluga sturgeon being added to the export list. The nations bordering the Caspian Sea have agreed to decrease the catch quota by close to 30% in 2007 as compared to catch quotas of 2005. So after a year of waiting and suffering from Caspian caviar with-drawls the wait is over! In the coming months, we will be receiving a fresh harvest of Caspian caviars. With stringent regulations imposed by United Nations through CITES such as significantly decreased export quotas, review of fisheries restocking efforts as well as labeling of legal origin and trade registration systems we can enjoy Caspian delicacy with fewer environmental concerns. All exporting and importing countries are required to adopt the environmental control measures to ensure the survival of the species. After all no one wants the return of the ban – am I right?
